Place out stakes, peony cages and trellises around young plants.

It is easier to train young plants through the cages than manipulating mature plants.

Remove faded flowers on spring blooming shrubs such as Lilacs and Rhododendrons.

This encourages better flowering for next year, but be sure to finish by June to allow the plant enough time to set new flower buds.
